All Grown Up

Work wear is impossible. Seriously, it’s not fun at all. I started my first proper “grown up” job last Monday and finding clothes to wear every day has been a nightmare! For those of you that regularly follow this blog, you’ll know that I’m happiest in either Birks or trainers. So I found myself glaring at my new brogues every day. And they’re lovely brogues, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them, apart from the fact that they don’t have the comfort that my New Balance do. Suit pants, skirts, dresses, shirts, blazers, they’re all fine as separates, but when I need to put them all together, it just doesn’t feel right.

Monday was my first day, typical me I was more concerned about my outfit than anything else. I wanted to be comfortable and not worrying that me skirt or dress wasn’t the right length or whatever. Plus I hate wearing tights, although you wouldn’t know it by what I wore for the rest of the week. I refuse to wear heels in work because running around all day in heels is not ideal, although I’m sure I’ll have to on some occasions.

I realised that all of the work clothes that I already had were black. I really need to try to make more of an effort to wear colour so I have made a rule with myself that if I am wearing an all black outfit, I can’t wear my black coat too. This camel coat is one of my new obsessions. It’s the perfect colour, length and cut for me and so cosy! I’ve been wanting a camel coat for ages so I was delighted when I spotted this one.

This was my sad attempt at injecting some colour into my outfit. Although I do love this shirt! It’s a soft blush colour and is a really gorgeous silk. I think it’s more of a casula shirt however as it isn’t ideal for tucking into skirts and trousers as it’s quite long at the back.

It’s not woolly hat weather yet, but it’s definitely getting very cold out! I bought this hat in Barcelona and I love it! I actually started a Hunt for this hat ages ago and I finally found this one which is really similar. It was my small way of putting some of my style into my work wardrobe, something that I’m going to work on a lot in the coming weeks.

I was really relieved to survive my first week of work without my brain getting totally fried. There is so much to learn, so much new information to take on, it’s a lot to take in. I just have to give it time and work hard and everything will be fine.

I am going to do a post soon on workwear as it is something that I think I will be ranting about for a while! If you guys have any specific questions that you’d like me to look into you can leave a comment or send me an email. Have a great week!
