Can someone please explain how this was my first time in Italy?

Seriously though. What have I been doing?! Italy is just a few hours plane ride away, it’s the home of pizza, pasta and gelato, there’s amazing wine, prosecco, not to mention the history and views. Where have I been? Now that I’ve finally been to Italy, I have big plans to go back. We’re talking road trip plans. Vineyard plans. Positano plans.

But first, Venice. As always, I have a vlog done of my trip where you can see how useless I am at directions, the lengths Emma will go to to get a good picture, and what one of my biggest fears is. Take a look, it’s pretty funny! If you’re liking my travel videos, please subscribe to my channel!

I went to Venice with my lovely friend Emma. As you will have hopefully seen in my Burano post, Emma is an incredible photographer and you should definitely check her out. We ended up getting delayed on the flight over, which meant a long wait in the airport and lots of irresponsible shopping. When we finally arrived at our Airbnb, which I would highly recommend by the way, we dropped our bags and headed out for a drink and dinner. We ate at Ristorante al Bacco Felice. Tasty pizza, super cheap, lovely prosecco, nothing fancy, but it was perfect for us to unwind.

The next day we were up and out pretty early. After a quick bite and incredible coffee at a nearby square, we headed for St. Mark’s Square. As you’ll see in the video, I wasn’t a huge fan. Apart from my big fear, it was just too touristy. Long queues, expensive food and drinks, everyone fighting for space to take a picture of the Bridge of Sighs. It was too much. We quickly decided that we just wanted to sit down somewhere, chill out and take in the surroundings.

Ca’sagredo Hotel is perfect for this. Trust me. Gorgeous views, lovely surroundings, the nicest staff, great drinks and snacks, what more could you ask for. We ended up staying there for a few hours just relaxing before heading to SuSo for some incredible gelato. You might have seen SuSo on Instagram, and for good reason!

That evening we headed to Bagatela, for dinner. I had found this restaurant online. It’s definitely not a tourist spot, more of a local place to eat, which is how I prefer eating on holidays. We ordered the Black Burgers which honestly had us googling straight away! Very tasty, good food, nice beers, great old school music. If you’re looking for somewhere that’s local and off the beaten track, this is a good spot. We then headed to El Sbarlefo San Pantalon for a drink. It’s a really lovely, small bar, serving great prosecco. This is located close to the student area, where we were staying, so it was perfect for us.

Day three was a big day for us, it was the busiest day we had in Venice for the entire trip. We got up and out early as we were headed for Burano, which I’ve described, as mentioned, in a previous post. I won’t go into great detail in this post on it, but it was definitely worth the trip! Afterwards we headed to Harry’s Bar for a Bellini. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend it. The staff are lovely, and yes the drink is tasty, but it’s tiny, way overpriced, and despite Harry’s being located right beside the water, you actually can’t see outside to the stunning view unless you’re seated upstairs for dinner. Which opens at 7pm. Which is after sunset in March. So we wouldn’t have been able to see anything anyway! My advice, skip Harry’s and head to Ca’sagredo Hotel.

That night, our last night, we decided to go to the Venice Jazz Club which was just down the road from where we were staying. For 30 euro each, we got dinner – Emma got cannelloni, I got a cheese and charcuterie board – a bottle of wine to share, and a full jazz show. It was one of the best things we did in Venice for sure. The music was brilliant, there was a lovely crowd, the food was great, the wine was amazing. I definitely recommend going!

The next morning, I woke at 4am for some reason, I think it was potentially the noise of many boats and ducks outside our window that did it. After grabbing a coffee and croissant, and having a quick peek in Mango and Sephora, it was time to head for the airport. Word of warning – Marco Polo airport isn’t the greatest for food options, so try to bring something with you if you can.
