August Favourites 2018

It’s been a hot minute since I made a monthly favourites post.

I used to love doing monthly round ups, so I’m going to use this time and space to share with you some of my favourites from the month. It’s a totally random mix, so I hope there’s something for everyone!

Søstrene Grene Candles

I’m obsessed. There’s no other word for it. I picked up these candles (for a cool €2.98 each), more for aesthetics to be perfectly honest in my house, but the smell of them is divine! I got two scents – Seaside and Lemon Verbena. Let me tell you, I will be stocking up big time. They are so fresh, not at all overpowering, and for €2.98, you literally can’t go wrong. Do yourself a favour and pick up a few of these. They’re a new favourite of mine.

MAC Lip Conditioner

I was having a really bad time with dry lips. For nearly all of July and part of August, I could not hydrate my lips. I tried everything. Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, exfoliating, medicated lip balms, diorlyte for hydration. Nothing was working. I was in town one day with my mom and decided I’d run into MAC and get the lip conditioner, as I remembered it being pretty nice on the lips. I didn’t have high hopes that it would work as nothing else had. It wasn’t instant relief, probably because my lips were so dry and sore at that stage, but within two days my lips were so much better. By day 4, it was like nothing had ever happened. If you’re struggling with dry lips, firstly, I feel your pain! Secondly, give the MAC lip conditioner a try. It really worked for me.

Asos Hat

A random one thrown in here but this got so much love when I wore it that I figured I had to include it. If you’ve seen my Instagram, you’ll have seen that I wore this hat to the Big Grill Festival in Dublin recently. Never in my life have I been approached so much about an item of clothing. It was madness! It could have been something to do with the sheer circumference of the hat, it’s hardly subtle. But it doesn’t really matter. I love this hat. It was a total steal on Asos, currently sold out, but here’s the link regardless.

Curious with Josh Peck

If you watched Drake & Josh on Nickelodeon when you were younger, then you already know who Josh is. If you watch the Vlog Squad on YouTube then you’ll also know who Josh is. Curious with Josh Peck is a great podcast that Josh has started where he interviews different people from the entertainment business. I say interviews, it’s really more of a chat between friends that is recorded. There’s episodes with different writers, producers, actors, the first episode alone is with John Stamos. I really like the camaraderie that Josh has with all the people he interviews. I think he has such a lovely way of talking to people, and he’s so open about his own life and experiences. If you’re looking for something light to listen to on your commute, on a flight, or on a walk, this is a great option. Give it a listen.

Cravings by Chrissy Teigen

I don’t know how to describe my love for this cookbook without this post turning into a dissertation. Firstly, if you don’t follow Chrissy on Twitter, go do that now. Then go online and buy this cookbook. You can thank me later. Chrissy has created a cookbook that makes me so excited to cook. It’s full of recipes with actual real life flavours and spices, rather than the bland recipes that you can find in so many cookbooks. Shoutout to two of my favourite recipes – Coconut Rice and the Frosted Flakes French Toast Casserole – I’m addicted. And that’s no word of a lie. I’m dying for Cravings 2 to come out. The bar has been set high with the cookbook one, but I know that the second will be just as drool worthy. BRB, off to eat now that I’m made myself so hungry talking about food.

Bellamianta Rapid Tanning Mousse

I hate sunbathing. I literally don’t have the patience. I need to be in my most relaxed state ever to spend time sunbathing, which is basically never. So when I don’t want to look like Casper the Friendly Ghost, I pop this tan on. I was converted to Bellamianta tan this year after my friends have been telling me for years to try it! One of my favourite things about it is the fact that it doesn’t stink like mouldy old biscuits. Check on that point. It’s a very inoffensive smell. Secondly, I like that it’s a mousse and it’s easy to see where it’s going on your body. I still mess up from time to time, but that’s because I’m both lazy and impatient, so it’s inevitable that there will be spots missed. The colour pay off it amazing, I think it’s the most natural tan out there. And, unless you’re a total sweaty mess, it fades quite nicely, so don’t worry about it being scaly. It’s a little more expensive than other tans, but in my opinion, it’s worth it!

Dublin Town Print

I’ve been wanting to jazz up my room a bit. I love the current vibe – whites, greys and green – but I don’t want it to become too set in it’s ways if you get me? Enter this fab print that I picked up in the National Gallery of Ireland. Firstly, the pop of pink is amazing. Who doesn’t need a little pink in their lives. Secondly, I love the Poolbeg Chimneys. They’re so iconic to me and nostalgic, as I have family who live nearby. This print is made by an Irish couple called Jando, which is another plus as I love supporting Irish brands and companies. If you’re looking for a print for your home, I definitely recommend checking them out.

LVL Lash Lift

Ok, I have the world’s straightest lashes. Not a whisper of a curl to be seen. It drives me mad. I try to use curlers, but it just doesn’t hold. I had heard about LVL which is a lash lift and tint, and decided to try it out. I went to the Brow Boutique in Jervis Shopping Centre one evening after work. The whole thing took less than an hour. I go through it in more detail in the video, but basically it involves perming, tinting and conditioning your lashes. I’m obsessed with it. It’s made a huge difference to my face. I look more awake, or brighter. I’m not sure how to describe it, all I know is I’m obsessed! It lasts 6 weeks in total, so I will definitely be getting it done again when the 6 weeks are up!

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

Ok, the winner of the cutest movie ever, has to go to ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before”. There is no question about this, don’t @ me. I’m telling you. It’s the best. If you haven’t watched it, go onto Netflix and watch it right now. I don’t care what time of day it is, you need it in your life! I won’t go on about it, much like the cookbook I could write a dissertation on this movie. Just watch and enjoy!

Those are some of my favourites from August. I hope that you enjoyed them, there’s really something for everyone I feel. I think I’ll try to more of these posts, I always love a good round up! Happy September!
