The song for this Tuesday Tune is close to home. Its by Hozier, a guy who lives maybe 30 minutes from my home and the song is ‘Take Me To Church’. This is one of these songs that you listen to, and you instantly pay attention. His voice, the music, the lyrics. It all comes together and is perfection. Andrew Hozier Byrne is from Wicklow, south of Dublin in Ireland. He released his EP in July of this year.
The video has received a lot of attention. You’ll see why as soon as you watch it. It was directed by Brendan Canty and it ‘references the repression of gay people in Russia through the personal story of two gay lovers subjected to violence’. It is difficult to watch because its so hard to see people being violent towards lovers who don’t fit their idea of acceptable partners. The drama of the video only heightens the power of the song. I can’t tell you how many times I have watched it in the last while.
It is definitely worth a watch and the song is worth a thousand listens.
