Ok so I know I said I don’t make resolutions in a previous post, but I’ve been thinking that maybe some style resolutions wouldn’t go amiss. Its a good opportunity to take stock of what you have, what you wear and what you should be wearing. For example, and I have spoken about this before, I wear way too much black. Seriously. There is no reason to live in my black jeans and jumpers the way I do. So with that in mind, here our my style resolutions for 2014.
1. Clean out my wardrobe
It is chock a block. Seriously. There are clothes everywhere. Some which still have the tags on, some which haven’t been worn in forever, some which are damaged and yet I hold onto them like some sort of crazy hoarder. It needs a total revamp. So for 2014, I am going to put aside a day where I can clean out my wardrobe and methodically go through everything.
2. Take stock of what I have
This is super important. Knowing what is in your wardrobe does several things; it prevents you from being wasteful and buying that practically identical top that you don’t need because you already have two, it focuses your mind on what you absolutely do still need like that perfect leather jacket and it also reminds you of hidden gems in your wardrobe, leading to loads of new outfit possibilities. Its a win win.
3. Wear less black
As I said, I’ve posted about this before and still I need to work on this. I wouldn’t mind, but some colours actually really suit me, like cobolt blue, or army green. Even for New Years Eve, I had bought this pink dress online, very pretty, structured, looked great on. What did I end up wearing? A black leather skirt with a mostly black leather top with some colours on the front. Which reminds me that I also have a leather obsession. Anyway, its time to wear colour more and stop depending on black so much.
4. Shoes
I am unfortunately not one of those girls who has a shoe for every occasion. I really struggle in the shoe department and I need to start making life easier for myself by buying more shoe options. Boots, I have covered but I really want a pair of silver oxford shoes, and a red pair of shoes, preferably heels. The oxford shoes are obvious, who doesn’t want a smart pair of shoes in silver? The red heels must be some childhood fascination with Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, but hold the sparkles please for my pair. The Valentino Rockstuds are to die for!
5. Hats
Hats everywhere please and in every colour. See other obsessive hat post for details.
6. Experiment
Fearlessness is one of things I admire most in peoples fashion choices. The will to say, screw you, I love what I’m wearing. I think sometimes I’m not as fearless as I would like to be. I limit myself to certain shapes and styles or I think I’ll look ridiculous in something. This year, I want to experiment more, and open myself up to all the options. After all, it ain’t what you wear, its how you wear it.
7. If you love it, buy it
Too many times I have stopped myself from buying something amazing because it was a little out of my price range, when really I would have been better off buying that slightly expensive item rather than three fast fashion items. How many times have you not bought something, and regretted that decision for a long time? This year, if I love something, I’m going to buy it. It means I’ll have pieces in my wardrobe that are better quality, life long pieces and I won’t have non-buyers remorse.
So these are my style resolutions. Is there anything fashion or beauty wise that you have resolved to do this year?
