NYFW: The Best Bits

Disclaimer: These are the best bits of NYFW in my opinion. I would love you to comment if you feel there were any other amazing shows, pieces, models, designers that I missed!

So, New York Fashion Week is in full swing. We are officially half way through and already I am overwhelmed by the incredible designs that have been showcased. Alexander Wang, Zac Posen, Jason Wu, Victoria Beckham, Thakoon, Derek Lam, Tibi and Prabal Gurung all knocked it out of the park in my opinion.

Monochrome, block fresh colours, and all white everything are the stand out trends to me so far. Alexander Wang has some beautiful lazer cut pieces, with Victoria Beckham creating fluid layers of feminine fabrics. Below are some of my favourite photos from the catwalks. All photos are from Vogue.com unless otherwise stated.

1. Dark and Dangerous

Designers used all kinds of black this season; patterned, leather, lace. All of it looked daring and bold and gave off a nineties feel. I particularly love the first and third outfit below. Both have progressed the peak a boo and crop top looks and given them a new edge.

2. Patterns with Peak a Boos

Many designers played with patterns and colours to great effect. Almost all had a peak a boo element. Whether it be in the midriff or an elevated hemline or even with a sheer layer of fabric as we can see at Prabal Gurung in the first photo. All of them added an unexpected element to the patterned designs.

3. Fresh Colours

A few seasons ago, almost all the colours in the spring summer collections were pastels. Now designers are incorporating some more zesty and strong colours to the pastels. I think the likes of the fresh lime and the rich coral are gorgeous and definitely trends that I want to try out. These colours also featured heavily in the make up of the shows which I promise to post about soon.

4. Clean and Bright

White from head to toe was one of the strongest trends on the catwalks this season. As always, I believe an all white outfit looks incredibly chic and sophisticated when done well. These designers added layers, lace, sheer sleeves, white shoes, and lapels to give their designs an extra dimension. I think this was definitely my favourite trend from the catwalk this season.

These are just a few of my favourite designs that I have seen over the past few days. Obviously there are many more trends and incredible outfits but these are the ones that stood out to me. I hope to add to these in the final four days of New York Fashion Week.
