You can always expect fresh faced loveliness for Spring Summer make up looks, and SS14 didn’t disappoint. While some designers chose the natural look, others decided to add pops of colour to the looks with either a colourful lip, eye or nail.
Below you can see my favourite looks and trends so far. All are from Vogue.com unless otherwise stated.
1. Au natural
Many designers went for the natural, no make up look. This was generally accompanied with loose, slightly unkempt hair. I adore this look and I wish I could recreate it on myself. Unfortunately, I tend to be a little self conscious when I do such a look and feel that I look a bit strange and underdone! I suppose its something I’ll just have to try to recreate more often and become comfortable with.
2. All about lips
Many designers used a strong lip colour as an accompaniment to flawless skin. Some were more expected, such as corals and lavenders. However, some designers went for a plum stain which is usually a lip colour more reserved for autumn or winter. I think it looked great with the bright coloured clothes and its great to have a lip colour that can carry you from winter right through to spring.
3. Lovely Locks
Hair varied quite a bit in the catwalk shows. On one hand, there were designers doing sleek ponytails with soft luxurious looking hair. There was also the wet look hair, either styled in a messy look or used to create sleek side partings. Then there was the slightly bed head look. Personally, I love the bed head look. It has a feel of effortlessness to it and can be quite simple to achieve.
4. Eyes that Hypnotize
Eyes were varied across the board. Some went for a natural eye with eyelashes taking the focus. Altazurra used a white eyeshadow to great effect which allowed the lip colour to be the focus. Soft greys were also used to achieve a light smokey eye. My personal favourite was the soft glimmering brown-golden eye at Jason Wu. I think this is a beautiful look with the pale pink lip that you can do now for autumn/winter as well as in the spring.
5. Point Perfect
Nails came in all lengths, shapes and colours this season. Some in a block colour or in two tone as seen below. Personally, I think nail trends are one of the easiest ways to update your look. The cost of nail polish means its low commitment and, unlike cutting your hair, it can easily be changed. I think I’ll be looking into some bold block colours for this season.
So what are your favourite beauty looks for SS14 and which ones are you dying to try out? x
