It’s been a very busy week.
Last Sunday, I moved into my new home in Dublin. Before you ask, no I didn’t buy a house (I wish!), but I’m now renting with my cousin and two of her friends. I literally moved from one side of Dublin to the other, so it’s been a big change. But just to make things even more intense, I also moved into a new office in Smithfield last Monday, the day after moving into my new place. All the new!
The move has been a long time coming, so when a room opened up in my cousins house, I jumped on it. Myself and my cousin are close and have always got on, and her two friends are lovely so I knew it would me a nice environment to be in. What’s even better is the fact that it’s so close to my new office. I literally walk to work every morning now in 30 minutes. No more commute! I don’t know what to do with myself!
I’ll be honest and say that I had reservations about the room. It’s pretty tiny and at the time the layout of the room wasn’t helping. It made it seem a lot more cramped. But, my mom is an actual magician when it comes to interiors. She’s the Queen. She worked her magic and the room is actually pretty decent now. I’m hoping to have the video showing the transformation of the room live on Friday, so if you’re not subscribed to my YouTube, now is a good time to get subscribed!
One thing that I need to adjust to, before my bank balance is totally destroyed, is being so close to shops when I’m in work. I’m a big online shopper, especially from stores I buy from a lot as I know what will fit and suit me. But sometimes you just can’t beat walking around the shops and getting to see things in person before you buy. In my last office, I wasn’t close to shops really. Now, I’m a 10 minute walk from 2 shopping centres, a department store and a heap of shops. I can’t stop buying things! It’s a bigger issue than normal. It’s only been a week though so hopefully I get my act together soon!
I love Smithfield. It’s a really interesting place, there’s amazing coffee (Proper Order is my absolute favourite), really cool street art, Lighthouse Cinema, and just a really good energy about the place. It doesn’t hurt that the weather has been stunning these last few weeks and I’ve been able to sit out at lunch and enjoy it all.
Our new office, by the way, is sick. I’m very lucky and have worked on projects in some of the biggest and best offices in Dublin. Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, they’re all amazing. But, I think that this office is so unique and special, and is my favourite to date. Where you work has a massive affect on your performance. In the new office I feel like I can be creative and get inspiration from my surroundings. I also love that there are plants everywhere! Parts of it look like a jungle which is amazing.
It’s a lot of change in a few short days, and I was a little overwhelmed early last week. But I really can feel myself starting to settle in and become comfortable. It’s going to take a while for me to know my surroundings and get my bearings, but it’s all exciting!
I can’t wait to show you the room transformation! I think the room looks pretty great right now. There’s still a few finishing touches to do, but the main things are done. I’ve waged a few wars with Ikea furniture over these last few days, so I’m glad that’s all done! As I mentioned earlier, that video should be live on Friday and I’ll have a follow up post on it this day next week too.
Have a great week! x
