I’m all about making the most of the clothes that you’ve got.
If you’re trying to be a more conscious shopper, and more eco-friendly in general like I am, then buying new clothes all the time just isn’t sustainable. Aside from being expensive, it’s also unnecessary, as many of us have a wealth of options to choose from in our own wardrobes.
However, sometimes wearing the same things day in and day out, can start to feel old. You can end up feeling like you’re in a rut, and start hating some items in your wardrobe. Knowing how to update your outfits easily is key to avoiding these ruts, and today I’m going to share some of my favourite ways of doing just that.
Scarves
Insanely versatile! Create a hairband, tie them around your bag, use as a belt, put them around your neck in one of the billion (ok bit dramatic) different methods, tie them around your pony tail. This is one of the fastest ways to pull a look together and to update an over-worn outfit. Last Friday, I was a little (a lot) hungover following a work night out and desperately needed an easy outfit to hide the fact I had had a mere hour and forty-five minutes sleep. I wore black jeans, a black jumper, and black boots that are in heavy rotation in my wardrobe. So far, so boring. However I spied on of my scarves in my room. A simple square piece of silky blue, white and red fabric. I threw it around my neck, tied in a simple knot and instantly looked like I had made an effort, which I definitely hadn’t. Bonus points for the bright scarf distracting from my bloodshot eyes!
Lipstick
Another lifesaver from distracting from tired eyes. Lipstick is something that I generally keep fairly neutral, but when I’m looking to jazz up an outfit, it’s is a simple and effective way to make a difference. Think about it; you wear a white shirt, blue jeans and a simple shoe. Cute. You wear a white shirt, blue jeans, a simple shoe, and a red lip? This girls got her shit together. Don’t be afraid to play around with colours, deep plums, hot pinks, corals, they all make a difference! See also – nail varnish. Game changer.

Jewellery
My go-to outfit saver. I am a jewellery fiend. Mostly because I know my outfits are largely plain without them. Rings, earrings, necklaces, brooches, bracelets, they’re all an easy and quick way to elevate an outfit. I love to layer necklaces of different lengths over plain tops, jeans and a leather jacket. Five rings constantly adorn my fingers, and simple hoops made it seem like I made an effort, when again, I definitely didn’t.

Hats
I am a hat person. I love a good hat. Straw, baker boy, baseball cap, beanie, you name it, I’ve worn it. Hats can instantly add drama to an outfit, with no effort, and it saves your hair from the rain too. Bonus. I recommend having a variety of hats to choose from as not every hat will go with every outfit. When in doubt, a simple fedora in a colour like moss green, blue, or plum, can totally change a dull outfit.

I’ve never been that into fashion but since starting blogging I just want to wear cool clothes and make up that make me feel like a goddess, so these tips are really cool and helpful for me. I love adding scarfs to outfits especially inbetween seasons like winter and spring. I don’t own much jewellery but I can see how it can really add to a look! A really great and useful post😀
