My New Beauty Faves 2018

Lately I can’t stop buying beauty products. It’s an obsession!

I don’t know if it’s because I have a newfound interest in skincare (approaching 30 will do that to a girl apparently!), if it’s because my hair has changed so much and it’s prompting me to switch up my look, or if it’s because I’m following a million beauty vloggers on YouTube and instantly buy everything they mention loving… Or maybe it’s a combination of all three. Who’s to say.

I’ve got all the products in the video above, but also going to discuss them in detail here, just fyi.

First up is Nailtiques Formula 2. The kit I have has a little bottle of the formula 2, cuticle oil and a cuticle and skin gel. My nails are super disobedient. I would love to have nice shaped, mid length nails. But thanks to them constantly breaking, or me fussing over there, they never get there. I’ve tried various nail strengtheners, but they are really just hardening the nail without providing them with the nutrition they need. Full disclosure, I haven’t used this product in about 3 weeks and my nails don’t look great. But, when I used it religiously for about a month, my nails looked and felt amazing. I think consistency is the key here until your nails are at a place where they’re more naturally healthy. I plan on starting back into the routine of using this every day, and will let you know how I get on.

Next we’ve got some of my favourite products – Ouai. I’ve been using the Wave Spray for a while now, and definitely upped the ante since getting more highlights and going more blonde. I’m still a big fan of the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, but Ouai Wave Spray is the one I go to nearly every day to give my hair that undone look that I love. The addition of oil in this product doesn’t make me feel like I’m drying out my hair, or doing damage. I’ve recently also got the Texturising Hairspray which they say is a dry shampoo and hairspray hybrid. Personally, as I have very oily hair, I wouldn’t be reaching for this on the days I need a big refresh. Batiste Blonde is still the OG for me here. But for days when I want more texture, a light hold and a little freshen up, the Texturising Hairspray is perfect for this. And, it doesn’t feel sticky or crunchy in the hair. It’s just a really lightweight spray.

Eye make up is not my forte. I can do a decent eye if I need to, and if I have time. But when I need quick application, I’ve generally been going without. However, I have been totally, 100%, undeniably converted to Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise in Bette. Where has this been all my life? It’s so easy to apply, looks amazing, feels creamy and lightweight, and the colours are perfect. I wear it in the daytime by literally swiping it across my eyelids. At night, I’ll either make it more dramatic by building it up, especially in the outer corners of my eyes, or I’ll add a darker brown shadow to the crease and outer corner. Easy, exactly how I like my make up to be!

In the video I mention that I can’t do a cat eye. I’m not sure why I used that phrase. It’s not like I want my eyes to look like cat eyes every day of the week. What I meant was winged liner. I’m not talking mega wings that would take flight if they could. I’m talking a simple wing that you can do in the daytime just to add a little definition to the eye. That’s all. Enter MAC Brush Black Brushstroke Liner. A game changer in my eye world. If I can somewhat manage to do a baby wing with this liner, than anyone can. It’s super easy to use, makes it very easy to get the right shape, and the colour is spot on. If you’re like me and useless with a cat eye (wing in 2018 speak), then invest in this liner.

I’ve mentioned before that I have a lot of blotchiness, redness and uneven skin tone on my face. It honestly drives me mad. I would love to be one of those people that had even skin. But I don’t. So get over it basically Katie. Anyway, I heard about It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness Cream and got it in the shade Transforming Natural Beige. I have to say, it really does cover redness. Easy to apply with a Beauty Blender. A little goes a looooonngg way. And I don’t have to spend a tonne of money on foundation or concealer trying to hide my redness. Win.

My friends probably shudder when they think back to my MAC Gold Deposit days. I was obsessed. Gold Deposit. Everywhere. Honestly. In Vegas one of the girls saw me putting it on my feet. I was like a giant glittering Oscar statue. It was a bit OTT. I realise that now. I’ve grown. I’ve changed my ways. Well, not entirely. Gold Deposit has a time and a place. But now, I aim for the more subtle glow. MAC Strobe Cream in Gold Lite is my fave. I am obsessed with it. For days when I don’t want to wear make up (aka, most days of my life, certainly in work), I mix some strobe cream in with my Stila One Step colour correction cream. It tones down the appearance of redness in my skin and gives me a subtle glow. For make up days, I put this on under my foundation, or mix with my foundation, for a nice glowy look.

While I’m on the Gold Lite obsession, the new MAC Fix Plus Spray in Gold Lite is essentially one of my children at this stage. I am a huge Fix+ fan, it’s a go to product for me. But adding in gold flecks?! I was like a moth to a flame. I saw it and before I knew it, it was in my basket and I was paying for it. I love this product. A nice subtle glow on the skin. What more could a girl want?!

There you have it. My new favourite beauty products that I’m loving at the moment. If you have tried any new products lately, please let me know in the comments below as I will definitely be looking to try them out!
