The Academy Awards 2014

So unless you live under a rock you will know that last night was the biggest award night of the season, the Oscars. While I haven’t watched the actual show yet, I certainly kept a close eye on the fashion. Maybe it’s just me, but I felt so few people took risks last night. There were a lot of dresses that didn’t really stand out for me. Some people did knock it out of the park though – Lupita, Cate, Sandra – so let’s take a look at some of the dresses from the night as well as the most tweeted selfie of all time.

Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock nailed it with their stunning navy gowns by Gucci and Alexander McQueen. I love navy because it is much warmer than black, suits literally everyone and looks incredibly elegant.

Lots of black gowns last night. Olivia Munn was flawless in her Valentino gown, Margot Robbie wore a gorgeous Saint Laurent gown – although I way prefer her hair blonde – and Glen Close looked incredible in Zac Posen.

Jennifer Lawrence was one of the few people to wear a bold colour with her peplum Dior dress. Love the colour on her, but I think Jennifer needs to go back to trying different styles. She’s worn a lot of strapless gowns lately and it’s becoming a little predictable. I still love her though!

Many stars were embracing the white and metallic trends. Some worked like Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein, and some I felt were a little safe like Angelina Jolie.

There were a couple of show stopping dresses for me. Charlize Theron looked amazing in her Dior gown. It was a little severe in the bodice but still looked wonderful. Kate Hudson wore a stunning caped gown by Atelier Versace which ticked every box. Lupita Nyong’o wore a fairy tale gown by Prada and single handedly brought back the hairband. Lupita has been the standout style icon this awards season. She has embraced colour and original designs like no other actress and for that alone she deserves an award! Finally Cate Blanchett was incredible in Armani Privé. The dress is perfection on her and she looks like the epitome of what we expect movie stars to look like. Loved it.

And finally, the most retweeted photo of all time goes to Ellen DeGeneres with a whole army of beautiful actors and actresses by her side. Currently retweeted 2.3 million times, and counting!

So who stood out for you at the Oscars this year?
