Such a snappy title I know… Anyway, I have finally managed to find the time to go through the hundreds of photos I looked at of NYFW. There are some great wearable trends coming our way for AW 14/15. My favourite shows were Maison Martin Margiela, Calvin Klein, Proenza Schouler, Altuzurra, Tibi, Alexander Wang and Rag and Bone, but there were lots of other incredible shows too. Below I’ve gone through hundreds of photos to show you guys the upcoming trends.
1. Blue
Blue is going to be essential to your winter wardrobe this year. Especially cobalt blue. It featured heavily in a lot of shows and looked great up against inky navys and soft greys. Just like pink is this springs big colour, as predicted in last seasons trend watch, blue is going to be in every shop around come September.
2. Grey
I think grey is a no brainer for winter. Its softer than black and makes clothes look very chic. Designers at NYFW were using lots of greys in coats, suits and sweaters in a wide variety of fabrics. Herve Leger by Max Azria had a gorgeous look with a skirt and sweater combo, in varying shades of grey, all wrapped up in a stunning grey coat with a huge hood. Definitely a favourite.
3. Winter White
As you may have seen from a post I did earlier in the week, I am obsessed with winter whites, and it appears that designers in New York feel the same. Crisp white shirts, floaty skirts and some incredible white coats graced the runway. Maison Martin Margiela nailed it with their opening look; a stunning white jacket, with a white mini, white slouchy clutch and incredible black leather boots. Perfection.
4. Pop of colour
Its so easy to play it safe in winter and wear all dark clothing. Its something I struggle with myself. This season, many designers were showcasing looks that were predominately dark, but that had flashes of fuschia, neon, moss green and orange. Its the perfect way to inject colour into your wardrobe without committing to a bright look.
5. Cosy Coats
The coats. I am in love with about 15 different coats from NYFW. This coat obsession should be out of control by the time we reach Paris. Oversized, cosy, big lapels, tied at the waist, long, I loved them all.
6. The Mini
Mini skirts dominated this season. Paired with brogues and an over-sized coat, or with thigh high boots and a little sweater, minis are definitely something to invest in.
