It’s been a super busy week which has prevented me from posting this for a while.
Damn work and responsibilities getting in my way! But finally, finally, I’ve got around to it. Last weekend I was in Kerry with my cousins. For those of you that don’t know, Kerry is in the south of Ireland and is a destination that you have to go to if you’re ever in Ireland. I used to spend all my summers in Kerry when I was younger, but I haven’t been back in about 10 years. Just before Christmas, my cousins and I decided it was time to go back.
I don’t have many pictures from this trip as I was mostly recording on my GoPro, so if you want to see how beautiful Kerry is, click play below! You can subscribe to my YouTube channel to keep up to date on all my travel videos.
I can’t describe to you how lucky we got with the weather. The sun shone the whole weekend and it was gorgeous going out for walks, driving to Dingle and walking around, and driving to dinner through the Ring of Kerry. Seriously, when the sun is shining in Kerry, there is no better place to be.
The first morning, myself and my cousin Sinead drove to Dingle, which is about an hour from Rossbeigh where we were staying. It’s a gorgeous little town. We used to go there all the time to the aquarium, then out on the boat to see Funghi, the dolphin that has been around for years, although more than likely there’s a few “Funghi” around! Two things you have to do when you’re in Dingle – go to a gorgeous little coffee shop / artisan produce shop called Crinkle. It is gorgeous, and filled with beautiful Irish produce. The second is Murphy’s ice cream. This is non-negotiable. Seriously. Try the sea salt flavour, or the rum, or the peanut, or the caramel… basically just try them all! You won’t be disappointed!
Another place you have to visit when you’re in Kerry is The Point. It’s a bar and restaurant about a 30 minute drive from Rossbeigh. It literally hasn’t changed a bit since I was last there 10 years ago! It’s an authentic Irish pub, with the most fresh delicious seafood that you could imagine. Plus you get to drive through the Ring of Kerry to get there, so it’s a win win.
Another must in Kerry is watching a sunset, although that’s a must for me everywhere. If you’re anything like my cousins and I, you’ll grab a few beers, walk down to the beach, and chill out. It’s a great way to end the day.
I hope I go back to Kerry soon, I definitely won’t be leaving it 10 years! While it’s a bit of a drive from Dublin, about 5 hours give or take, it’s totally worth the drive. There’s so much to do and see in Kerry, and if you get a day when the sun is shining like it was for us, you won’t want to leave.
I’m going to pack now for another Irish trip! This time – Kinsale!
